Bro Loesch's talk.
by New day inrecently i heard through video link to our kh a talk by bro loesch where he attacked university study (again) but this time he prefaced his remarks by saying, and i quote, "the faithful slave does not forbid you to go to university.
" so this was a bad start as his following remarks made it clear that this was just a way of seeming reasonable while basically saying that we shouldn't do it.
he went on to use an illustration i think he has used before about a man with ocd who decided to kill himself.

So this was a bad start as his following remarks made it clear that this was just a way of seeming reasonable while basically saying that we shouldn't do it. He went on to use an illustration I think he has used before about a man with OCD who decided to kill himself. He shot himself in the head but didn't die and the effect of the bullet actually cured his OCD. His warning was not to try something really risky (like university) as you might survive but was it worth the risk? He also compared it to someone who might survive a swim in shark-infested waters but , again, why do it? He sounded so arrogant, a sort of smiling assassin when he deigned to say the slave was not forbidding this ,but...He also counseled against even young children having any friends or playmates who are not children of Witnesses and encouraged parents to push their kids to become unbaptizes publishers at 7 or 8 and without mentioning it directly the inference was that they would also get baptized at a young age. -

1919 Doctrine no longer exists? (Today's Watchtower Study)
by FusionTheism inquote from today's watchtower study article that's being studied at the halls (march 15, 2015, page 24):.
"understanding the illustration of the talents".
"when the master rewards the slaves.".

I can't remember if I read it on another thread here or elsewhere but somebody mentioned that in this and similar parables the entrusting of responsibility to the slaves begins when the Master leaves, which in Jesus' case was in the first century. If the inspection is still future then 1919 has no part to play at all. -

May tv broadcast
by New day insomebody on another thread suggested that those still in could express their opinions on steven lett's performance.
i am still in and i was shocked, dismayed and saddened by it.
i became a witness over 30 yrs ago and the issue of donations was a non-issue for so many years.. now, it is a huge one for the org.

Now, it is a huge one for the org. How could the GB imagine they would get away with it? Do they really take us for morons? We are thinking, feeling human beings. We have a brain to work out when we are being taken advantage of. The destruction in my confidence in the GB started two years ago with many of the doctrinal changes, accelerated with this latest donation insanity, and is capped by the completely illogical and scripturally unsupported series of wt articles from the May 15 study articles that we start this wknd. God help us. We need it.

"Normal family affections and dealings" continue - If only?!?
by LHS123 ini am new to this forum - it is only a couple of weeks since i have allowed myself to acknowledge and research my doubts.
i am trying to be fair by reading both sides of the story and considering jw official explanation of confusing matters.
one of the issues i have been looking at is shunning - and i was shocked to see the misleading information about shunning on the jw.org website: .

My sister faded years ago and I treat her exactly the same as I ever did (I am still an active Witness) , and her two Witness closest friends keep in close contact with her (they knew each other from childhood before becoming Witnesses). So some people follow their own conscience and do not just blindly follow all the very heavy hints dropped by the org. -

Family gathering before disfellowshiping
by Mattieu inif you were/are in the sydenham (melbourne/victoria) congo you may be very familiar with this a few years back.
a prominent elder who likes the sound of his own voice (hint, his initials are william saad) yes of quite a well connected family, was on a judicial committee who was disfellowshiping one of his own male relatives for repeated marijuana usage.. this story by the way shows how corrupt the whole system is.
as williams family (elders and c/o) had covered up the previous few sorrid outcomes of his drug usage, they couldn't contain the last public viewing of his drug dependency, witnessed by many witnesses ironically... so they held a jc to disfellowship him.

Ok, to sowhatnow who asked elders and ms to defend themselves, and those who called elders "corruption squad", it is understandable to take a pot shot at those whose motives you question. But I was an elder for almost 20 yrs (only resigned less than a yr ago) and in all that time I thought I did my best to be fair, impartial and kind, especially on jcs, which I had a good deal of experience in. Not all elders are baddies, you know. -

FayeDunaway I know what you mean. It's hard to speak without reservation. Before I became a witness I took people as I found them. For over 30 years I have been seeing everyone through a lens. I am still an active witness but I am now pleasantly surprised quite often when I meet somebody and I stop myself from weighing them up according to my "theocratic standards." It's very refreshing to try to see people on their own merits. -

To LHS123
Reactions to disfellowshipping vary. A close relative of mine by marriage was disfellowshipped wrongly. My wife and I never stopped associating with him. We were discreet about this but I also wrote to the branch office to complain. My wife thought I would be in big trouble for this but they were fine about it. Eventually he was exonerated. Another relative is also disf. but family still see him. So it depends.

David Schafer's Mistake
by Hold Me-Thrill Me inthanks cappytan for posting the thread "jehovah's people as a whole can never be corrupted".
it's a sad example of how low in simple reading skills the present gb and their helpers are.
david schafer referred to philippians 4:7 on jw broadcasting.

Frank
thank you for your post on this. I also watched it in disbelief and came to the same conclusion that you did that the scripture was completely missaplied. Thank you for expressing it so clearly, much better than I could have.
